The napkin dispenser is a piece of catering equipment (most common in so-called ‘fast food’ facilities) providing customers with convenient, simple and unrestricted access to napkins. Napkins are held within the container (or between two surfaces), either vertically or horizontally, so as to allow a single napkin to be extracted from the holder at a time. Paper napkins were originally invented by the Scott Paper Company and their introduction led directly to the napkin dispenser in 1930. Coloured plastic napkin holders were very popular between 1950 and 1970 and are generally known as vintage napkin holders.
