Folding Wooden Ruler
A classic folding wooden ruler, 2 metres when extended and marked in both centimetres and inches - the perfect tool for the workshop and shed.
Folding rulers (also called a carpenter's or mason's ruler) are so called because they fold or collapse in on themselves to become compact and pocket-sized (six to eight inches long). Overalls generally have a leg pocket specifically designed for this tool. Now commonly replaced by tape measures, the 'zig-zag' rulers are still popular with some people. The rulers were, and still are, made from wood – up to the 1960s this was Swedish whitebeam (like rowan), but this was gradually replaced with downy birch.
