Crochet Coasters Set
A modern classic for the home – a set of four crocheted 100% cotton coasters in shades of blue-green. Popular in the early to mid 20th Century, these “granny squares” as they were sometimes known, were often to be found on coffee tables, dinner tables, drinks cabinets and sideboards.
Dimensions: 10 x 10cm
Crochet involves creating loops of thread and interlocking them to form a loose fabric with a crochet hook (the French word "crochet" means small hook). With exponents working from printed patterns, this was a beloved home craft activity, particularly in the early part of the 20th Century. After the First World War, most patterns were simply adapted versions of earlier designs and fewer were published than pre-war. However, after the Second World War, there was a crafting revival and many earlier designs were updated and new patterns were published – these used thicker and more colourful threads/yarns. It retained its popularity well into the 1970s as ‘granny squares’ (a colourful decorative circular design) became popular with young crafters.
