Andy Warhol was born in 1928. An American artist, he was a key figure in pop art movement. Before his renowned and often controversial artwork, he worked in business as an illustrator. The artworks which followed in the 1960s considered areas surrounding artistic expression, celebrity culture, and advertisement. His art was truly multi-media, encompassing hand drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, silk screening, sculpture, film, and music.
Andy Warhol created ‘Campbell's Soup Cans’ (sometimes called 32 Campbell's Soup Cans) in 1962. There are 32 canvases and each is of a screen-printed painting of a Campbell's Soup can (one for each of the product lines produced by Campbell’s at the time). The piece was highly influential in the pop art movement.
