Family Fortunes ran on ITV from 1980 to 2004 and involved two families trying to guess the most popular responses to simple questions answered by 100 members of the public (surveyed before the show). Answers were shown on an electronic scoreboard, which declared a wrong/missing answer with an iconic ‘Eh-Uh’ noise and a large ‘X’ on the screen. Correct answers got a ‘ping’. There were three primetime hosts: Bob Monkhouse (1980–83), Max Bygraves (1983–85) and Les Dennis (1987–2002).
