Bagpuss is a truly classic British children's television series. The series of just 13 fondly-remembered episodes was originally shown from 12 February to 7 May 1974 and was made by Peter Firmin and Oliver Postgate (the latter providing the gentle narration for the series). Their company, Smallfilms, made several other iconic Kids TV series in the 60s and 70s including The Clangers, Noggin the Nog, and Ivor the Engine. Bagpuss was the central character in a shop window, "a saggy, old cloth cat, baggy, and a bit loose at the seams" but loved by a girl called Emily. It was repeated well into the 80s and in 1999 it topped a BBC poll for the UK's favourite children's TV programme.
